Baby sleeping aids

It is usual for babies to wake up several times during the night to gurgle or toss around this is a normal human sleeping pattern it’s just that a baby involves the parent in this waking process thus disturbing the parents sleep. If the baby has trouble falling to sleep and time for cradling and swaying by the parent is limited then there are some products on the market that can help sooth the baby off to the land of nod.

A pacifier is a simple and long time tried and tested baby sleeping aid it has been recommended by the AAP to aid sleep for babies as sucking is a natural comforting response for all babies. Although parents do worry about negative orthodontic effects of sucking a pacifier the AAP recommends just using it at night to aid sleep for the child’s first year. A swaddling blanket is a good way to make your baby feel comfortable at bedtime, the secure wrapping of a swaddling blanket will help prevent reflexes during sleep giving a more comfortable sleep for the baby.

Another relaxation tool to get baby off to sleep are the soft noise baby sleeping aids such as the white noise machine. The idea behind this is that it produces soft background noise that is similar to what the baby experiences in the mothers womb thus promoting sleep, a cheaper alternative to this could be simply the old fashioned soft music mobile over the baby’s crib.  A baby swing or baby rocker is a really good sleeping aid that simply slowly rocks the baby in a side to side motion that imitates a mothers sway, the baby can be put in this while the parent can get ready for bed and usually the baby will be asleep within minutes.
