Product Description
DESCRIPTION: America’s favorite pediatric experts turn their attention to the hottest topic in parenting–solving babies’ sleep problems–in a definitive book that offers immediate results. For every parent who’s ever been deprived of sleep by a restless infant or toddler, now there’s hope. This much-needed addition to the Sears Parenting Library is the comprehensive, reassuring, solution-filled sleep resource that virtually every American family will want to own. Nighttime separation anxiety, new breastfeeding habits, and an increase in adult sleep problems have made babies’ sleep habits a growing concern in recent years. The Searses offer solutions. Instead of espousing the kind of “one-method-fits-all” approach advocated in other parenting books, the Searses teach parents how to match the nighttime temperament of their baby to their own lifestyle. The authors draw on important new infant sleep research from the Mother-Baby Sleep Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame, as well as on their own personal experience as parents of children with a wide range of sleep habits. They also offer a detailed critique of the myriad new devices and ballyhooed techniques that promise to deliver safer and better infant sleep. THE BABY SLEEP BOOK provides parents with the practical tools they need to help the entire family sleep better.

Nice that all of these reviews are posted multiple times, word for word, for different books. I WAS going to buy a few of them.

I wouldn’t give this book one star if I didn’t have to!
Don’t buy this book if you have other Dr.Sears books. All he does is repeat the same info over and over again. Plus, his viewpoint is based on just that: his point of view. No research on infant sleep patterns, nothing. It’s pure fluff and nonsense. Claiming that you are damaging your baby by letting him/her cry it out is also irresponsible. He compares our industrialized society with societies that are less industrially developed placing too much value on how these people parent their children without focusing on the fact that if these people had the means, they would live like we do, too, and would probably end up parenting their children like we do, too. Or does he truly endorse that parents and children sleep in the same room for years and years? Come on!
Sears’ book doesn’t help and only exhausts the parents, especially the mother. If you are interested in infant sleep, read “Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child” by Marc Weissbluth. He at least knows what he is talking about, and bases his book on scientific research. Plus, he has some REAL solutions, not just opinions.

The Baby Sleep Book: The Complete Guide to a Good Night’s Rest for the Whole Family
I bought this book to hopefully help me to figure out how to best get my daughter to nap. The first time I opened it, I was already crying, as my 2 month old baby was upstairs crying for her nap. It was one of the first times I let her “cry it out” and believe me, I did it because there were no other options. This book all but came out and said that I was doing permanent damage to her by letting her cry it out. That only made my emotional state worse. I shut the book and have never opened it again. If you are an attachment parent, defiantely get this book. If you are on the fence and considering letting your baby cry it out, you might get some use out of this book. However, if you know you will let your baby cry it out because it is the best choice for you and your family, and there is no one size fits all parenting, then I would not recommend this book.
Also, if you have any other sleeping situation than co-sleeping, this book is not for you. Not only does he hardly mention non-co-sleeping arrangements and solutions, he also hints that if you don’t co-sleep you aren’t making a good choice for your baby.

The Baby Sleep Book: The Complete Guide to a Good Night’s Rest for the Whole Family
I practiced attachment parenting with our son, and was very keen on the concept of attachment parenting. Bedsharing, however, proved fatal for out daughter. She died because of the negligent advice on the safety of bedsharing. I followed all the “safe” guidelines and we were still victims of a potentially avoidable tragedy.
If you doubt what I say please search and you will find that infant deaths due to suffocation have quadrupled over the past 20 years.
I encourage everyone to practice the ABC’s of safe sleep. Alone, on the Back, in a safe Crib. Please it may save your child’s life

I have always been a fan of Dr. Sears. I was really excited to find his book on how to soothe your baby to sleep. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to read the book due to lack of time. I have two kids and at a age when they need my attention. I am sure I will love his advice because it coincides with mine about 99 % of the time.
I always recommend Dr. Sears books. However, only if you believe in Attachment parenting.
